Egg Cell Donation

For 30 years a success

In Egg cell donation the oocytes from an anonymous donor are inseminated with the husband's or partner's sperm, and the resulting embryos are then transferred into the uterus. In 1983, egg donation was applied for the first time. From that moment on, this method has been applied on a large scale. Oocyte donation, as a method of Assisted Reproduction, is an unsurpassed success. Egg cell donation proceeds according to strict standards, established by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Some figures:

  • The pass rate for Egg cell donation is between 55% and 60% in a single attempt, and thus rises even above the IVF with own eggs.
  • Three attempts will result in 80% of cases in pregnancy.
  • The risk of miscarriage after Egg cell donation is between 12% and 15%, the same as in pregnancies after intercourse.
  • The number of ectopic pregnancies is approximately 1.2%.
  • The number of multiple pregnancies (triplets) is 20% to 30%.
  • In the clinic usually 2 embryos are transferred.

Risks

Multiple births have an increased risk of complications during pregnancy, birth and the period immediately after childbirth. Because the risk of multiple births when placing multiple embryos is very real, the number of embryos to transfer is discussed with you beforehand: two or three

As the risks increase as the mother-to-be gets older, the legal age limit is 50 years. In practice it means that the treatment should be completed before the age of 50.

Guarantees

Egg cell donation demands the utmost care to protect the donor, the embryo and the receiver. Therefore we give the following guarantees:

Donor guarantees
  • A woman is only then accepted as a donor, as she has endured international recognized tests, as described in the Guide for Egg Donation of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, published in Fertility and Sterility, Vol. 77, No.. 6, Suppl. 5 June 2002.
  • Each donor gets gynecological, endocrinological and genetic examination and is continually tested for the presence of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, syphilis, hepatitis, chlamydia and cytomegalovirus.
  • The donors are young women between 21 and 34 years old, in good health, non-smoking, well-educated and intelligent.
  • A donor can provide ova up to six times.
  • We try to choose donors of similar length, eye and hair color as the receiver. We also try to find a donor with the same blood type as the mother-to-be.
  • Thanks to an active donor recruitment, we have one of the most extensive donor lists. Therefore, there are no long waiting times and the mother can faster through a treatment cycle than any other center. Normally egg donation cycles last between 3 and 6 months, depending on the speed that the recipient wishes.
Embryo guarantees
  • About 6-10 oocytes from the same donor are prepared to be fertilized.
  • For each embryo transfer at least 2 embryos of good quality are prepared.
  • The gender of the embryo are determined before the placement with PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis). This is particularly important when genetic disorders occur in the family. The price of PGD depends on the number of embryos. The costs of PGD are not included in the treatment.
  • Unused embryos of excellent quality can be frozen for later use. Freezing (cryopreservation) can be done only when both partners agree to this in writing. The cost of cryopreservation is not included in the price of the treatment.
Legal guarantees
  • Since the Czech Republic has no specific law on the donation of reproductive cells, sperm and egg donation is not prohibited. Egg Donation in Czech is anonymous, voluntary and free of charge.
  • However, it is common practice to give to the donor a compensation for her time and effort. The egg donation is a serious event that requires quite a lot of preparation time, and many medical procedures to be undergone.
  • Because of the guaranteed anonymity no information about the donor will be ever given. All information about her health, research and notes of conversations are stored securely in the Clinic. Only in necessary cases (such as the health status of the child), this information can be accessed by doctors.
Financial guarantees
  • If two successive attempts were not successful, and cryopreservation could not be performed, a discount of 25% will be applied at the third standard attempt.
